Do the tiles have any special finish to make them slip resistant?
In the EzyTile range there is a different surface treatment depending on the product.
With the porcelain tiles there is a fine layer of silica sand applied to the top surface of the tile. This provides excellent slip resistance yet does not affect the appearance of the tile.
On the other hand, the granite tiles have a rough textured hammered finish, again to provide slip resistance. These tiles are not polished granite, which could otherwise be quite slippery.
The slate tiles use natural split and cut stone and do not have any additional surface treatment. Of the three types of product (porcelain, granite and slate) the slate tiles would probably exhibit the least slip resistance. Howevever there are a number of products on the market which can be applied to the surface of the slate and are designed to increase the co-efficient of friction on the stone surface and thus increase slip resistance. Please see the FAQ question "Are the slate tiles slippery when wet?" for further information and suggestions of anti-slip products you could consider using.
However, one of the main benefits of HandyDeck interlocking tiles is that any water drains away very quickly between the gaps in the tiles which eliminates pooling of water on the tile surface and encourages rapid drying of the tiles. .
