EzyTile Stone & Ceramic Deck Tiles
At last you can enjoy a delightful outdoor entertaining area with an elegant natural stone or ceramic tiled surface without having all the hassle, frustrations and hard work of laying tiles the conventional way.
Our simple interlocking tile system makes it easy for anyone to enjoy the outdoor flooring of their dreams – no tradespersons required and no DIY skills needed.
Natural stone or ceramic tiles are bonded to a plastic mesh base with connecting tabs on all sides. So you just clip the tiles together, automatically guaranteeing precise spacing, perfect alignment and securely locked in position. And you can lay the tiles over most level and even hard surfaces (although existing concrete is generally the best base for laying the tiles)... ready to enjoy in a matter of hours, not days.
- no messy mixing, spreading and clean up of adhesives or thin set
- no tedious, time consuming grouting
- perfect alignment guaranteed by foolproof clip together installation
- automatic precise and consistent tile spacing, without using tile spacers
- perfectly consistent tile heights
EzyTile stone and ceramic tiles can be laid on most solid surfaces such as concrete or existing wood decks, provided the surface is as smooth and even as possible so the tiles don’t “rock”. But other than that, unless you need to cut the tiles to fit around posts or pipes or to fit precisely within a specific shaped area, the only equipment you’ll need is a tape measure (and a pair of sturdy work gloves).
The EzyTile range is available in the following materials. Click on the 'View Product' button to see specifications, installation guidelines, and photos of completed projects for each product.
STONE TILE PRODUCT RANGE
Slate Patio Tiles
In both ultra modern and more traditional settings, the texture, luster and classic colors of natural slate never fails to impress, whether it’s the more rustic look of Copper Jade, the soft and graceful Sea Green or the bold but distinguished Graphite Grey.
Granite Patio Tiles
Granite has long been the paving of choice for upscale plazas and forecourts of commercial buildings. And for good reason. Its classic good looks, durability, and wear resistance are unmatched by most other paving materials.
Ceramic Patio Tiles
With a fine top layer of silica sand for superior slip resistance, EzyTile ceramic tiles make an ideal flooring for three season porches, exposed exterior patios, or balconies and rooftops, provided the sub-surface is smooth and level.
Sandstone Patio Tiles
The warm brown tones and subtle bands of color of natural sandstone combine perfectly to bring a delightful Tuscan feel to any exterior setting or wherever a soft, natural stone look is desired.
Pebble & Mosaic Stone Patio Tiles
Pebble and mosaic tiles can be used either on their own or combined with our other tiles to create attractive feature panels or infill areas. As with all tiles in the EzyTile range, no adhesive is required and no grout is used between the tiles or the pebbles themselves.
How to Install EzyTile Deck Tiles
With EzyTile deck tiles, there’s no tedious surface preparation, no messy adhesives, and no time consuming grouting. And the trouble free, click in place interlocking system ensures all tiles are aligned perfectly and precisely spaced, automatically. Of course, if you have an area that's irregular in shape or has posts or pipes that you need to fit around, then you may need to cut some tiles. In that case you'll also need a wet saw with a diamond blade, although even this may not be necessary if you follow the suggestion in Step 3 below.
Just follow these basic steps:
Step 1 - Prepare the surface
When installing EzyTile deck deck tiles it’s important that the surface is as smooth and even as possible, with no bumps or surface depressions that would cause the tiles to lie unevenly or “rock” on the surface. We do not recommend installing EzyTile deck tiles on bare ground, sand or gravel. If the surface is particularly rough or cracked, it’s advisable to level the surface with a suitable exterior patching compound or filler. To provide good drainage under the tiles, the surface should normally slope slightly away from the outer wall of any structures
Step 2 – Click the tiles in place
In most cases it’s best to start laying the tiles from one of the outer corners of the area you want to cover and work inwards towards the exterior wall. Position the first tile in the corner of your workspace with the protruding tabs on two sides facing in the direction you will be laying the tiles. Take a second tile and place the side of the tile without the protruding tabs over the tabs on the first tile. Push the second tile down so that both tiles lock firmly together. Repeat this simple "click in place" process, working in a diagonal direction across the area to be covered.
Step 3 – Finishing touches
With the last row of tiles, you may need to cut some tiles to fit any remaining gap. For this you will need to use a wet saw with a diamond blade. When using the wet saw it's best to cut away part of the plastic base that will lie in the path of the blade to avoid gumming the blade. But if you don't want to rent a wet saw or prefer not to cut the tiles, that needn’t be a problem, as one of the simplest solutions is to fill the gap where the cut tile would sit with some attractive river pebbles or other landscaping materials. You could also use our pebble or mosaic tiles since these can easily be cut to shape with just a sharp knife. Or, if you want to add a bit more creativity to your design, you could leave out an extra tile or two elsewhere and fill these gaps with pebbles as well.
If you wish to hide the plastic base from view or if you need a sloping transition from the tile surface to the floor at the edge of your covered area, clip on edge pieces are available. These injection molded edges and corner pieces are supplied in four colors although normally the grey would be used with the slate tiles, sand or grey with the granite tiles and sand or beige with the sandstone tiles.
Care & Cleaning
- To remove loose dirt, brush the surface of the tiles or clean with water and sponge
- A mild detergent may be used if more intense cleaning is necessary
- Any debris that may accumulate between the tiles can normally be removed with a vacuum cleaner
- Tiles can be hosed down or disassembled to clean underneath if required
- Care should be taken to avoid heavy objects being dropped on the tiles
- Avoid hammering on the tiles or exerting excessive pressure by sharp objects on the edges of the tiles
- Legs of metal chairs or tables should be protected with rubber “feet” if placed directly on the tile surface
- If any tile becomes damaged or broken, the tile should be removed immediately to avoid possible injury
- Due care should be taken when walking on the tiles in wet weather Note that the slate tiles can be somewhat more slippery than the granite, sandstone or ceramic tiles
Slate Tile Care
With the slate tiles, to provide maximum protection from oil and water-based stains, we advise coating the tiles with a high quality sealer. We suggest using a good quality, invisible, fully breathe-able impregnating sealer rather than a topical sealer for better long term results.
Whilst we do not recommend any specific products as we have not tested the many products available, you may wish to consider the products offered by the following companies:
Granite Tile Care
Although granite resists wear-and-tear exceptionally well, and its mineralogical structure is not influenced by freeze-thaw cycles, it is nevertheless a semi-porous material, so unsealed granite can absorb water or grease, potentially creating permanent stains. Sealing EzyTile granite tiles with an impregnating type sealant such as those listed above, which closes off the pores so that stains can't get in, can therefore be advisable in many situations.
Sandstone Tile Care
Since sandstone is more porous than slate or granite, it is advisable to seal the tiles with a penetrating type of sealer that will not only repel water to some extent, but resist stains. We suggest sealing EzyTile sandstone tiles with a good quality, invisible, fully breathe-able impregnating sealer as mentioned above rather than a topical sealer.
