Roof Decks

Flat rooftops offer great opportunities for transforming into attractive entertaining or relaxing areas...

And with HandyDeck deck tiles it's a transformation that's both quick and painless to achieve.

Not only are the tiles easy to transport up stairs or elevators, but you don't need to install any permanent structural supports or bearers, which is generally the major impediment to creating a rooftop deck.  You just snap the tiles into place over the existing rooftop.

All of our interlocking decking tiles have multiple "feet" on the plastic base which distribute any load evenly over the surface below, alleviating concerns about damage to roof membranes.

But if you or the building owner still have some concerns, we suggest laying down an EPDM sheet under the tiles as an extra precaution.

You can buy EPDM in different widths with lengths up to 50' wide from specialist suppliers such Best Materials or Resource Conservation Technology who can also custom fabricate a single sheet to avoid seams.  They can also supply a complete system for your rooftop deck that includes all required adhesives, sealants etc.

Installing HandyDeck pavers on a roof deck is extremely easy.  Just start by placing a tile in one corner and then continue to place the other tiles in position by snapping each tile to its neighbor, working in an expanding triangular pattern across the area.

But before you start, you should always check that local regulations permit decking tiles to be installed on rooftops. You may also need to get permission from the building owner or other organizations concerned with the care and maintenance of your building.

Since our tiles are available in different styles and colors, you can create borders, centerpieces, feature areas etc. as you wish to build an attractive and distinctive rooftop deck.

And as the tiles are locked securely to each other, they normally won't move once they are laid. In areas prone to hurricanes or tornados though, you might consider lifting up the tiles if danger was imminent. Fortunately HandyDeck deck tiles are very easy to lift up and replace.

For large rooftop decks and especially in areas subject to heavy foot traffic, HandyDeck also supplies a range of exceptionally hard and durable 24” x 24” architectural porcelain pavers .  These structural pavers are not interlocking but are specifically designed for installation on adjustable height pedestals (also supplied by HandyDeck) for elevated paving applications and for creating perfectly horizontal rooftop decks  These versatile pavers can also be laid directly on a sand or gravel bed.

And compared with concrete pavers, not only are they lighter, wear resistant, stain resistant, frost resistant and easier to install than conventional concrete pavers, but are available in a superb range of simulated stone and simulated wood designs.
