Flat rooftops offer great opportunities for conversion into attractive entertaining or relaxing areas... and with HandyDeck tiles it's a process that's both quick and painless to achieve.
Not only are they easy to transport up stairs or elevators, but you don't need to install any permanent structural supports or bearers to support your roof deck. Since most building owners generally won't allow any permanent structure to be built on the roof, deck tiles offer a great way of overcoming this particular objection.
Another possible concern a building owner may raise if you want to use our tiles to build a roof deck is whether the tiles will damage the roofing membrane. Since all of our interlocking deck tiles have multiple "feet" on the supporting plastic base, any load that is placed on the tiles is distributed evenly over the surface below. And once the tiles are locked place, all movement is effectively prevented so there should be no damage by rubbing or any other abrasive action. .
But if your building owner still has some reservations about placing tiles directly on the surface to create the roof deck, then what we suggest is to lay down an EPDM sheet under the tiles as an extra precaution. You can buy EPDM in different widths with lengths up to 50' wide from specialist suppliers such Best Materials or Resource Conservation Technology who can also custom fabricate a single sheet to avoid seams. They can also supply a complete system that includes all required adhesives, sealants etc.
And then you just just snap the tiles into place over the existing rooftop. Typically you wont need to use the reducer pieces around the perimeter unless you only plan to cover only part of the rooftop, in which case you would probably want to use the reducers on any edge of the roof deck so that people are likely to be walking over, to avoid any danger of tripping.
And remember, since both our SwiftDeck and LinkDeck wood tiles and our EzyTile porcelain and stone tiles are available in several different styles and colors, you can create borders, centerpieces, feature areas etc. to suit your individual preference.
You could even create a centerpiece with EzyTile slate tiles and surround these with wood tiles. The options to create your own unique roof deck are virtually endless!
